Dr. William Sutkay grew up in the small town of Sterling,IL. At a very young age he was exposed to many different animals and the local veterinarian’s care for them impressed him. It was clear to him that once he grew up he wanted to be a veterinarian. Once he started vet school he realized he didn’t know the first thing about livestock production and switched his focus to small animal medicine.
Dr. Sutkay obtained his associates degree from a community college before receiving his bachelors from Northern Illinois University. In 2004, he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois. He joined Riser Animal Hospital in 2006 and has enjoyed working here ever since. In June 2015, Dr. Sutkay and Dr. Baksys assumed ownership of the practice and are excited to continue to provide the excellent quality medicine Riser is known for.
Dr. Sutkay enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine. He likes promoting preventative medicine, where he can try to help pets and their owners avoid problems before they occur. On the opposite spectrum he also enjoys working with senior pet owners to manage chronic pain and maximize their quality of life.
Dr. Sutkay married a fellow veterinarian, Dr. Jennifer Kotarinos, in 2010. They both enjoy discussing and bouncing cases off one another. When Dr. Sutkay is not seeing patients at Riser, he enjoys working out, snowboarding, and geocaching.
